Troubleshooting

Error: “Bad input data. Input generated within unknown network”

This error occurs when you are trying to sign a transaction for a network which has not yet been added to your Parity Signer!

You can use the Parity Technologies Metadata Portal, or the Nova Wallet Metadata Portal to find QR codes which will provide your Parity Signer Device with the information required to update the chain metadata.

To solve this: see here for instructions.

Error: “All parsing attempts failed with following errors...Network spec version decoded from extensions (version) differs from the version in metadata (version)”

This error occurs when your Parity Signer has outdated information about the network you are trying to use.

You can use the Parity Technologies Metadata Portal, or the Nova Wallet Metadata Portal to find QR codes which will provide your Parity Signer Device with the information required to update the chain metadata.

  1. Navigate to the appropriate metadata portal. Note: This should be done on a device which is not your Parity Signer Device.

  2. Select the appropriate blockchain that you wish to update the metadata for.

  3. Select the "Metadata" tab at the top of the metadata portal screen.

  4. Using your Parity Signer Device Select "Scan".

  5. Scan the Metadata QR code with your Parity Signer Device. Note: this can take a few minutes to complete.

  6. Review the verifier certificate and Select "Approve" (Parity Signer Device).

Error: "Bad error - invalid checksum" during the scanning in Parity Signer
  1. Relaunch the Parity Signer application.

  2. Try scanning the QR code again

Never share your mnemonic passphrase (12 words) and/or other representation of your private keys! Admins/team members will never request it from you. Store your mnemonic passphrase/keys and any backups securely and privately.

General tips on how to use Parity Signer

  1. You need to add any new networks that you would like to sign operations into the Polkadot Vault. For that, please use the Metadata portal link, scan "Chain spec" QR and then "Metadata" QR to add a new network to Parity Signer

  2. You need to maintain updates for networks' metadata on your Parity Signer. Usually, every network does the runtime upgrade every 2-4 weeks, therefore before signing any new operation check that you have the latest version of metadata on your Parity Signer.

  3. Cross-chain transfers — you need to have metadata for both networks (e.g. you would like to transfer DOT from Polkadot to Acala, in this case, you need to have both Polkadot and Acala networks in Parity Signer with up-to-date metadata)
