# Add Public Key for a Network

In Polkadot Vault after you add the chain specs and metadata for a network, you then need to add your Public Key for that network so that you can conduct transactions.

{% hint style="warning" %}
The following steps need to be carried out on your Polkadot Vault device.
{% endhint %}

1. Ensure that you have added the desired network chain specs and metadata.
2. On your Polkadot Vault device `select` the + icon at the top right of the screen.
3. `Select` the network that you would like to add a key for (note: if you cannot see your desired network then you have not correctly added the chain specs and metadata).
4. `Select` Create Key.

{% hint style="info" %}
Note: When you select Create Key, Polkadot Vault will create an account on that network with a derivation path. The derivation path will be as follows:

//polkadot for Polkadot

//kusama for Kusama... etc.

If you want to add the root key then you need to follow the steps in that section of this wiki.
{% endhint %}
